Tomorrow we will see more changes taking place in the Blog Roll here at the FlashReport. One of FR’s original blogging team will be retiring, to be replaced by another outstanding local correspondent…and we will be introducing another member of the California State Legislature who will join Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa in bringing us insights from under the Capitol Dome.
NO PAY RAISE FOR ME — OK, MAYBE A PAY RAISE FOR ME
Unlike the last few days, where reading on California politics has been quite anemic, there is a lot of interesting reading to take in on FR’s main page. "Above the fold" we have an expose from the Sacramento Bee where they reveal that of the large group of State Legislators that publicly declined a $12,000 pay raise, seven of them later decided to go ahead and take the salary bump. It’s my opinion that if you are going to define the job of a State Legislator as full-time, the raise was probably appropriate. The newsworthyness comes from the fact that in many instances, these legislators didn’t just turn away the raise, but gave quotes to the newspaper or told supporters that they thought the raise was a bad thing. Not all said that, but some. Some legislators said that they would not take the raise unless and until they were renominated for office. Anyways, you can see the seven legislators who flipped on whether to take the raise over on the main page.
WARD CONNERLY
The Los Angeles Times today features a story looking at FR friend Ward Connerly, and his lengthy but effective battle against government-sponsored racism and quotas. The left continues to attack Connerly for his crusade for a color-blind government. Connerly successfulyl passed a measure in Michigan a few weeks ago that mirrored the anti-discrimination measure he successful passed here in California in the 90’s. Connerly is emboldened to take his message out to a few more states as he seeks to once and for all shift the mindset of America away from racial and ethnic quotas in government.
THE GOLDEN PEN
Steve Greenhut, Senior Editorial Writer for the Orange County Register, has once again claimed the coveted FlashReport Golden Pen for his outstanding piece today looking at CalTrans, and how the agency has bought up via eminent domain a lot of property that it then holds onto, becoming a landlord. Or are they a slumlord? Check it out.
Enjoy your Sunday!!
