40 years ago today, Californians held an election for Governor and Lieutenant Governor. The winners that day were none other than the team of Ronald Reagan and Robert Finch. Finch went on to be named Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare by President Richard Nixon in 1966. Of course, Governor Reagan was re-elected in 1970, and went on to be elected President of the United States in 1980, and re-elected to another four years in 1984.
Next week, there will once again be an opportunity for Californians to elect a Republican Team to the positions of Governor and Liuetenant Governor. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom McClintock are our "Reagan and Finch" this year!

How could the election have been held 40 years ago TODAY?
Elections in California are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even numbered years. Therefore, the earliest the election could have been held would have been November 2.

Also, Nixon did not become President until January 1969.

What archive did you get that Arnold/McClintock photo out of? Arnold’s treating McClintock like he has bird flu this year!

Steven, don’t you have something better to do than comment on the Flash Report? Or is your campaign so devoid of any message that you have to turn to the Flash Report comments section to get any attention? I’m really looking forward to congratulating Lt. Governor McClintock next week.

I agree with Dana, you have to remember Arnold is married to a dyed in the wool liberal, with neo-feminist under-pinnings, there must be peace in the house when that man goes home. If he stands for more conservative positions and acts on them… there will be heck to pay at his house.
Look, the man is a hollywood insider, he leans right but votes [mostly] left. Mc Clintock is an across the board social conservative, one of his aides is a memeber of my church and a buddy.
I have come to hear McClintock on many occasion level the truth on what is really holding California back and where he stands on issues that can bring us propertity or destroy us all. I am glad he is taking the “indirect” approach to the govenors office. but we’ll see what the nutter salad has up their sleves as we get deeper into this election to come.
