Finally a Republican celebrity has decided to start campaigning for a down-ticket candidate, Sen. Chuck Poochigian. However, it is not Arnold Schwarzenegger, but Ben Stein. Attorney general is the most important statewide office next to governor and the choice this year between the two candidates couldn’t be starker. Poochigian has been running an excellent and creative campaign in the face of Jerry Brown’s large lead (due to a huge name identification after years on the public dole). But Poochigian has cut the lead dramatically and the race is getting heated. Enter Ben Stein, the comedian/actor who is unabashedly Republican. Stein is narrating Poochigian’s new ad, which should get the voters’ attention by not only what he’s saying, but because he’s got such a memorable voice.
Here’s the text of the ad:
Ben Stein: "Hello, this is Ben Stein. I want to talk to you about Chuck Poochigian. That’s right: Poochigian. Say it with me – Chuck Poo-Cheeg-yun. Very good. Chuck is running for Attorney General and he’d be a darn fine one.
"Poochigian says we’ve got to deport criminal aliens when they are released from our prisons. And he’s been a leader in going after sexual predators and identity thieves.
"I’ve been around politicians all my life. I know who’s real and who’s not. Chuck Poochigian’s the real deal. That’s why the California Peace Officers Association, California Sheriffs, and more than 60 police chiefs, DA’s, and sheriffs have endorsed him.
