Bond Proposals are Flawed – Kerry stumped for Phil? No one noticed.

NEED MORE REASONS TO REJECT THE BONDS?
You will hear plenty between now and election day about why it is important for Californians to REJECT efforts by the Governor, liberals in the legislature, and special interest groups to get voters to approve tens of billions of dollars of bonded indebtedness.  We have already talked plenty here in this site about the big-picture, and the idea that by approving this borrowing, we are letting the Governor and the Legislature off of the hook.  Right now, California taxpayers are sending a record amount of funds to Sacramento — the most recent state budget was well in excess of $100 billion!  There is more than enough money going into the coffers of state government to pay for a significant infrastructure investment program on a pay-as-you-go basis.

But sometimes the devil is in the details, too.  That is why I would like to encourage all FlashReport readers who see this in time to participate in a virtual press conference taking place today, from 10:30am – 11am.

At this press event, Carl DeMaio – President of The Performance Institute, Bill Leonard – Member of the State Board of Equalization, Adrian Moore – Vice President of Research for the Reason Foundation, and George Passantino from the Reason Foundation, will all be participating in this press event to share the bad news:  there are serious policy flaws in the statewide bond proposals (all of the "1’s, and also including Prop. 84).

It would appear that what advocates for this indebtedness are going to be telling you about why you should vote for these packages may not be everything you need to know to make an informed decision.  So check it out.

WHAT IF JOHN KERRY CAME TO CALIFORNIA FOR ANGELIDES, AND NO ONE NOTICED?
It seems notable to add that while I know that John Kerry, former Democratic Presidential contender who won all of California’s electoral votes, was in the Golden State yesterday appearing with Phil Angelides, you couldn’t tell from looking at the newspapers.  As a matter of fact, as it becomes less and less plausible for Angelides to overcome the huge lead enjoyed by Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, the MSM seems to be covering the race less and less.  Thus Angelides is quickly losing his ability to utilize ‘earned media’ as a means of trying to campaign to voters.  The problem that he has is that trying to get a paid advertising message out over television in the final weeks leading up to the November election will be nearly impossible with so many high-dollar campaigns taking place to  sway voters on tax and borrowing and spending issues that proliferate the ballot.  I’ve highlighted a couple of columns at the top of the main page today, one from Dan Walters, the other from Bill Bradley, that will both be giving Phil Angelides heartburn this morning.

Read ’em and weep, Phil!

Finally, take a second to check out my post over at the Red County/OC Blog — where I write about how the Orange County Republican Party has endorsed a challenger to an appointed incumbent Republican member of the Coast Community College District.  The difference between the officeholder and her challenger?  She has supported the efforts to sell KOCE TV to a foundation for millions under market value.  Perhaps a little re-election tough-love it called for?

Have a great day!
