A break from weekend political activities for a few bites from the week…
Survey USA Poll in 50th CD… Jim Sills noted it after Jon’s commentary yesterday…if you missed it, the survey was conducted 5/30-6/1 for local KGTV…448 likely voters…prior to the Busby "You don’t need no steenkin’ papers to vote" comment. The results show Bilbray up 47% to Busby’s 45%, with virtually zilch undecided. Sills astutely notes, however, that "the cross-tabs show Bilbray far ahead among voters over age 65, with Busby’s best segment being those under age 35. I think we all know the respective turnout history of those two age groups!"
Survey USA’s own analysis, "Turnout Will Decide CA 50 Special Election," you can see here, along with the cross-tabs.
The North County Times reported on the survey Friday.
Do I have to note that apparently no one is polling on the GOP primary portion of the ballot? Gee, I wonder why? Bill Hauf is an unquestioned conservative and would be a great representative…but the only race in question here is the Bibray-Busby runoff…as well as their runoff in November.
Note to Steve Baldwin: Steve, you’re my good friend, a former business partner, and my first campaign manager. You introduced me to my future (and still) wife. I’m glad you’ve had all those things right.
Wither SDPolitics Blog?… My references to this local blog-site may be no more. The page hasn’t been updated since May 17, except with the comments of those clamoring for more and wondering what happened. I always found it a useful forum for breaking news tidbits, but since the administrator is anonymous and now unresponsive to inquiring emails, for all I know he/she may have gone to the blog-yond.
In response to comments at the site begging for someone to start a new blog forum, I jumped in yesterday, noting that folks could always use the FlashReport. Check out the response from one "unbiased" soul:
Yeah, because what we commenters want is the official spin from party-line Republican operatives.
The commenters on this site are (almost) all not affiliated with any campaigns, we’re not paid by any party or political consulting firm. We’re just locals who want a venue to talk about stuff in a relatively neutral forum.
I’d sooner use FlashReport for my San Diego news as you’d use My Due Diligence (MyDD), KLSD’s forum, or DailyKos.
SD ROV Catching Some Brunt… I guess it’s typical this time of year for many to be unhappy with the Registrar’s office, in many counties I’m guessing. Has this gotten worse over the years, or is there simply more focus because of Bush-Gore, Florida, electronic voting machines, etc? The SDUT runs a pre-election story about some local complaints, perhaps so if there are any close contests later alleged to have hinged on shoddiness by the ROV, the local newspaper of record can say, "We told you so." Read the story here.
51st CD Candidate with a His-story, Her-story (or two)… Jim Galley has become a kind of annoying mainstay in local GOP circles. He keeps running for office, yet the only person that thinks he can win is…Jim Galley. You know the type. He’s a hard worker, but the fact that he’s chosen a series of races all way over his head, in strongly Democratic areas, lends to his reputation as the guy who just likes to run, not win.
His latest foray into the realm is an attempt at becoming the GOP standard-bearer to lose to Bob Fliner (or Juan Vargas, but not likely) in November. He claims the support of Brian Bilbray, Howard Kaloogian, George Plescia and Mark Wyland. If so, mercy endorsements perhaps, but I guarantee none of them knew of Galley’s past. The SDUT’s public records searches have come up with an interesting background: A deadbeat dad, an alleged abuser, and two wives…at the same time. Ouch.

No GOP nominee has a chance in this district, but the last thing anyone needs is the embarrassment of this guy campaigning into November. Blake Miles is also vying for the Republican nod. Good. Mr. Galley, please do the right thing and STAND DOWN.
