Today’s Commentary: Presidente Fox supports his constituents in our country

Yesterday, Mexican President Vicente Fox continued to demonstrate his willingness to actively represent his constituents in America.  That’s right – President Fox has millions of his country’s citizens in the United States, and he is intent on representing them while they are here.  I am sure that Fox spoke about many things in his address to the state legislature, and in his private meeting with the Governor.  But I have to admit, and this is speaking for myself, that after Fox came out in support of the President’s amnesty program (you know, where we let those who illegally cross into the country pay a couple thousand bucks and call it a day), I really didn’t care what he had to say about anything else.  As far as I am concerned, we should cut off any foreign aide to Mexico(whether direct from the U.S. or via the U.N. or World Bank) and start to make up a penalty list of how to make Mexico realize that we are not pleased with their Chief Executive’s aggressive pro-illegal immigration posture.

I was particularly proud of the dozen-or-so California legislators who chose to boycott Fox’s speech out of principle.  I also applaud those GOPers who went to the speech donning yellow pins signifying their unhappiness with Fox’s support of illegal immigration.

Assemblywoman Sharon Runner was one of the legislators who could not stomach the idea of listening to Fox.  Not only because of his stands on immigration issues — but because of Mexico’s long-standing practice of harboring criminal fugitives from the United States.  FR friend Runner has penned a thoughtful and provocative column for today’s FlashReport on why she chose to boycott President Fox’s speech, and I encourage you to give it a read!

I found it telling that Fox found time to meet with Democratic legislators in Sacramento, but rebuffed the request of GOP legislators, made by Assembly Republican Leader George Plescia, to meet with Republicans as well.  Undoubtedly Fox had no desire to hear from those who are critical of his positions.

I was disappointed to see the United States Senate pass an amnesty package back to the House.  But I am hopeful that the Republicans in the House will stay firm in the notion that allowing someone to obtain legal status to stay in this country who came here in blatant violation of our laws is patently un-American.  We are a nation of laws.

On a closing note, I would just ask everyone to keep the family of Orange Councilman Steve Ambriz in their prayers.  Steve, who was a dedicated family man and solid GOPer, was killed in a tragic car accident last night, and leaves behind a beautiful wife and baby girl.

Take care,

Jon

Yeah yesterday was a watershed day in American history. Was it just a coincidence that on the day when the President of Mexico gave an address to a joint session of our legislature, the state that has been affected the worst by illegal immigration(Arizona may have a good argument too), the US Senate passes a full blown amnesty program? I couldn’t help notice that. This country is truly in trouble with our current representation. They care more about illegal aliens who broke our laws than actual US citizens.
