The last line in the Capitol Weekly’s piece today profiling the three Democrats running to replace termed out Assemblywoman Wilma Chan in the 16th Assembly district race reminds me why it’s so lonely in the Bay Area at election time:
"No Republicans have filed to run in the district, where GOP voters are outnumbered 6-to-1 by Democrats."
That line made me think of my 10-year-old daughter asking me the other day if John Kerry is from

Mind you, it’s March ’06. Kerry lost the election in November ’04 and our neighbors are still driving around with "Kerry for President" stickers on their Volvos and Toyota Priuses, right next to their "Dump Bush" and "Bush is a Loser" bumperstickers. On the other hand, I had my "W04" sticker off my car the minute the election was officially called, knowing that how angry my fellow Bay Area residents were going to be when they woke up to find out that George W. Bush was reelected. I’m sure that the president was grateful to have my vote, but I didn’t think he’d be paying for my car repainted when some Kerry supporter ran their keys across it in the Berkeley Bowl parking lot!
