Update on erstwhile Mayoral Candidate Donna Frye….
Don’t even ask how I came across this one. Chalk it up to a good stable of tidbit senders. Apparently, SD Councilmember Donna Frye, once a surf shop owner but famous in recent years for one near-successful run at the mayor’s seat, is teaching a class for the Learning Annex.
You can sign up for "How to Be an Ethical, Successful Leader with Councilmember Donna Frye" online. For a mere $19.99:
You want fame and fortune… but you also want to be able to look at yourself in the mirror. Take heart. You don’t have to sell your soul to succeed.
Donna Frye will show you how, holding onto your true sense of self and standing up for what you truly believe and feel will greatly increase your chances of succeeding.
In this insightful and empowering evening, Donna Frye will reveal practical, time-tested insights you can use to develop your own leadership skills.

Although I won’t even begin to weigh in on this one, the sender writes, "Perhaps Frye will explain how to get elected on a ‘clean-water’ platform, then become the main supporter of the status quo for the most polluted beach in California, the Children’s Pool in La Jolla."
According to a 2003 Heal the Bay report card, Children’s Pool was rated the worst-polluted beach in California due to chronic, excessive fecal coliform bacteria, the source of which is a resident colony of harbor seals, which have been coming ashore since the mid-1990s.
As SD readers know, Children’s Pool is a consistent point of contention between those who believe the seals have exclusive rights, and those Luddites that think humans have some rights as well.
Environmental differences aside, Donna may have hit on something here with this Learning Annex outreach. Whether those paying $19.99 subsequently receive a Re-Elect Donna fundraising letter in the mail remains to be seen.
