OK – it is getting hard to read the playsheets these days, and so it should have come as no surprise to me that I got an email yesterday from Nick Valasquez, the Press Secretary to the Steve Westly for Controller campaign.
Apparently, I confused my former employees of new Schwarzenegger Chief of Staff Susan Kennedy…. (pictured left)
You see, I reported that smarmy Democrat operative Bob Mulholland had taken a position with Westly’s campaign last Thursday. Valasquez correctly pointed out that Mulholland actually went to work for the Angelides campaign!
This makes sense because when Phil Angelides was Chairman of the California Democrat Party, in addition to hiring Susan Kennedy as the party’s Executive Director, Angelides (and Kennedy) hired Bob Mulholland (pictured above right) as a senior staffer.
Of course, part of the confusion is because Susan Kennedy’s personal Chief of Staff at the Public Utilities Commission (where she has served as a Gray Davis appointee) left that post in June to become the Chief of Staff to Steve Westly (Westly is pictured above to the left)– in the office of the Controller.
I don’t think that when Kennedy was Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor Gray Davis, Angelides (pictured above to the right) or Mulholland actually worked for her, though here is Mulholland defending Kennedy’s former boss, in front of a "Taxpayers AGAINST the recall backdrop."
As you can see, this is all very confusing.
The recap.
Schwarzegger’s Chief of Staff (Kennedy) had as her Chief of Staff the person who is now Chief of Staff to Westly, but Kennedy used to serve as Chief of Staff (ED) to Angelides when he was Chairman of the Democrat Party. Mulholland, however, has never worked for Westly, he has only worked for Angelides and Kennedy.
If you think this is funny, it is … until you really think about it. Then you stop laughing.
P.S… A final little kicker — both Mulholland and Kennedy cut their teeth fighting for social equality with this familiar face (yep, commie-lover/socialist Tom Hayden) – Kennedy used to keep a scrap book of her idol, Jane Fonda (according to the SF Chronicle, Kennedy… "As a preteen, she kept a scrapbook with articles and pictures of the unconventional actress and activist." – Read it here.)
