Boxer Book – Bush’s CA Trip

BOXER’S NEW BOOK
Barbara Boxer has two titles now – career politican AND author.  That’s right, she has a new book out, entitled "A Time to Run" that is seemingly and interesting read.  Apparently the scenario has a liberal female U.S. Senator from California opposing a conservative female appointee to the Supreme Court (shock).  Fiction or non-fiction?  I’m not really sure.  The San Francisco Chronicle’s political writer/analyst has takes a quick peak at the book.

I’m not saying what Carla’s

priorities are here, but she did make it to the ‘racey’ parts of the book, like this excerpt: "… Her shirt was very short, and Josh found himself mesmerized by her pefectly shaped silken legs, with kneecaps that reminded him of golden apples … and her lusterous thighs."

LOL – I wonder if Carla is traveling  today to Southern California for the President’s visit with her favorite Danielle Steel novel, or the new Boxer book?  Anyways, you can read more about the book, and yes, more steamy excerpts in Carla’s latest entry on the SF Chronicle’s Politics blog.  Want to buy the book?  It’s available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble – but I just don’t have the fortitude to provide a link…

PRESIDENT BUSH’S VISIT TO CALIFORNIA
Speaking of the President’s visit — there has been a bit of controversy over the timing of President Bush’s visit to Southern California.  First and foremost, the issue is NOT about his coming out and laying a wreath at the gravesite of former President Reagan, or giving a speech as the library welcomes Reagan’s old Air Force One plane to its already-tremendous exhibits.  The issue is that President Bush is appearing at a high-dollar fundraiser for the Republican National Committee while he is in the state.

It is probably important to note that the RNC has not contributed ONE DIME to the California Republican Party to assist with advertising or Get-Out-The-Vote efforts for this coming special election.  That in and of itself is a tragedy.  I am sure that our three RNC Members, Chairman Duf Sundheim, Barbara Alby and Tim Morgan have done all of the lobbying they can to get some of the RNC millions here to help with the special election – but to no avail.

One theory is that RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, an ally of many of our (wimpy) Congressional Delegation members that are OPPOSING redistricting reform (can you say – want to keep their ‘safe’ seats?), is keeping RNC funds away because he does NOT want 77 to pass.

We all respect President Bush as a world leader, and as the titular leader of the Grand Old Party.  But there is some sort of ‘disconnect’ going on here.

Here is an excerpt from the tail end of a Los Angeles Times story today:

Stutzman said the governor’s staff recognized that it was tough to change the president’s schedule, but "we do think our concerns were voiced early enough that there could have been accommodation."

"We’re disappointed they came in to raise money two and a half weeks before the election," Stutzman said.

California Republican Party spokeswoman Karen Hanretty was more confrontational toward the White House in comments Tuesday to the Associated Press.

"Unless President Bush is coming to California to hand over a check from the federal government to help us with the financial challenges we face, the visit seems ill-timed," she was quoted as saying.

Apparently seeking to smooth the waters, state GOP Chairman Duf Sundheim released a statement Wednesday that was more in keeping with party protocol, calling Bush "a leader in the tradition of former President Ronald Reagan."

"We are pleased that he is visiting our great state," Sundheim said, "as his presence here will benefit all Republicans."

I will say this, Governor Schwarzenegger is focused on passing measures on paycheck protection and fair legislative districts.  That the President would come to California now, and do political fundraising for any other cause is a travesty, and a lost opportunity.  It also shows a disconnect between the President’s political team and what is important to Republicans in the Golden State.

Perhaps we can challenge the RNC to take the proceeds from this Calfornia event with the President, and DONATE THEM to the State GOP to help us win these important issues!
